Homeopathy and hypothyroidism

Homeopathic treatment for hypothyroidism and improving the life style

Do you feel tired, sleepy, moody want to kick out of the way things, craving for foods all the time, irritable and sometimes loosing control and sad frequently?

Maybe it is time to look at the thyroid functions and see how homeopathy can help.

Who controls the thyroids

The thyroid gland is controlled by the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland. When thyroid hormone levels drop too low, the hypothalamus secretes TSH Releasing Hormone, which alerts the pituitary to produce thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH). The thyroid responds by producing more hormones.

There are two main hormones your thyroid gland produces, thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3), and these two hormones affect every cell in your body.

What does an overactive thyroid do to your body? The thyroid manufactures and releases more hormones than your body needs, which can then cause a large variety of unpleasant symptoms.

What are the symptoms of hyperthyroidism?

The new symptoms indicate derailing from a healthy state to a sick state. These symptoms could be

Unintentional weight loss or weight increase

Increased appetite

Nervousness, anxiety and irritability

Increased sensitivity to heat

More frequent bowel movements

An enlarged thyroid gland (goiter), which may appear as a swelling at the base of your neck

Fatigue and muscle weakness

Trouble sleeping

Menstrual cycle changes

How can homeopathy help?

There are many remedies. As you are not the same person as others, the consultation will focus on understanding who you are and how you feel your symptoms. What make you to feel better and what triggers your symptoms that make you feel bad.

For example, Calcarea Carb. fits a person with a lot of fears and wants isolation to be alone. It helps when there is a weight increase constipation and profuse menses due to thyroid problems

Natrum Muriaticum is a remedy prepared from table salt. It fit a person that is sad, depressed, frequent fatigue, hair related issues, crying often.

Sepia is the cousin of Nat-M. It fit a person with very strong character, a lot of menstrual problems. Sepia is a person that is very active to a state of being overworked and therefore at some point the body brakes into a halt.

And there are more remedies to consider. As you see, it is very important that you share with the homeopath who you are so a proper remedy can be chosen for you as an unique individual.

The importance of Omega 3 and Omega 6

Why is Omega 3 important?

Omega 3 acts as an anti inflammatory agent, and also helps the mobility of all the cells in the body by acting as a lubricant.

Omega 3 is one of the polyunsaturated fats that are essential to our health. Other polyunsaturated fats are omega 6, omega 9 and more.

Omega 3 has two main components; the EPA and the DHA.

Researchers agree that it is most beneficial to introduce to our diet the omega 3 with both the EPA and the DHA components together and not separately.

How is the EPA and the DHA in Omega 3 made?

Our diet needs to include some omega 6. Omega 6 will be essential for the production of omega 3.

The omega 6 fatty acid, when in the liver, will get elongated with more carbon molecules. This new molecule will be elongated again, in he liver, to become EPA.

The liver will metabolize the EPA and then DHA will be created.

Studies found that DHA does not convert to EPA.

Where in the body we can find EPA and DHA?

The brain and the retina are rich in DHA, but these organs do not contain EPA.

Anywhere in the body we can find the EPA that will help us with many bodily functions.

Where can we get healthy sources of Omega 6?

We can find omega 6 in various whole foods and oils, i.e., Sunflower, safflower, soybean, corn, and more.

In order to reduce the oils costs, these oils became less pure comparing to their quality of many years ago, and as such be used by the food industry in all the aspects of producing packaged foods and cooking in restaurants.

I use whole foods containing omega 6, for instance sunflower seeds, avocado, walnuts and such, peanut butter, eggs and many more. I do not recommend using the oils mentioned above.

Where can we get healthy sources of Omega 3?

There is plenty of omega 3 in wild caught fish like sardines, salmon, cod liver, herring and other fatty fish.

Other good sources are cashews, almonds, walnut, chia, flaxseeds and many more.

Examples of diseases that Omega 3 can prevent or assist in curing.

Triglycerides โ€“ May lower the level with increasing EPA.

EPA reduces inflammation by creating a molecule by the name resolvents. In one example, EPA can help with arthritis disease by reducing the inflammation and therefore reducing the pain.

When EPA goes into the membranes, it improves the fluidity and therefore the metabolism will run smoothly.

Our neurons must be lubricated at all times. This is the basic consideration to prevent Alzheimer’s disease.

EPA can control the heart rate.

Bleeding โ€“ EPA makes the platelets not to be too sticky and therefore clogs might be prevented. This will result in prevention of heart attacks.

Pulmonary diseases, overall improve the immune system and more.

Hot Flashes

Hot Flashes

Hot Flashes

Hot flashes are not a disease but rather a condition that happens at a certain age as a result of hormonal imbalance. Hot flashes are common during menopause but women should not have to suffer from them. Not every woman will suffer from hot flashes but according to a research done by Study Women Across the Nation (SWAN), women may suffer from them for 4 to 8 years. As a result of aging, estrogen levels in women decline; in addition, there is a belief that the bodyโ€™s capacity to regulate temperature diminishes with age. These two factors are what scientists believe to be the cause of hot flashes. The medical solution for such cases is to prescribe drugs that increase the estrogen levels but these drugs might have side effects.

Factors that will enhance hot flashes and should be reduced are stress, overeating, watching too much television, emotional outbursts, drugs, alcohol and smoking.

There are a few natural approaches to deal with hot flashes.

Nutrition is the key to achieve wellness. The diet that is recommended to help with hot flashes is to consume less animal proteins, more vegetables, flax seed oil and soy food. For hot flashes there are a few recommended supplements, like Vitamin B6, Magnesium, Zinc, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, fish oil and a few more. Herbal supplements like chaste berry, Saffron, and ginkgo biloba among others can be very useful as well when dealing with hot flashes. These can be taken in tea or tincture forms.

Homeopathic treatment for hot flashes

Homeopathy treats the individual person that has the symptoms holistically. As such, the chosen remedy will be indicated for that person only based on her individual characteristics. Some of the various remedies indicated for hot flashes are

Sepia โ€“ In sepia the symptoms are worse before menses, in the mornings and evenings. The person feels much better by extreme exercises, by drinking cold drinks and by feeling warmth. The hot flashes in particular might be accompanied by headache and with the feeling of being tired when just awake. The hot flashes may start from the abdomen region and the heat will ascend toward the head and there will be a sensation of hot sweating.

Lachesis Muta โ€“ In lachesis the woman feels worse with the heat of the sun in the summer and spring times. She feels better by drinking cold drinks, applying hard pressure on the painful part and walking in the open air. If there are pains associated with the hot flashes they appear on the left side and the pain may move to the right. The hot flashes may be worse when falling asleep and during sleep. A good characteristic of a woman that will need Lach is that the symptoms get better as soon as the flow of menses begins.

Pulsatilla โ€“ The woman that needs pulsatilla has emotional excitement and she feels palpitations. She has intolerable burning heat at night with restlessness, heat of the body with coldness of extremities; she might have heat of one hand while the other remains cold. She may be weepy and get better by consolation. She will feel worse under the heat of the sun or warm rooms. Another characteristic of the remedy is that women may have redness of cheeks. She will feel better in open air and by cold applications and will desire cold things.
